I connected my laptop to my nice hdtv viqa hdmi cable and want my tv to act as a monitor... i need help..?

I have my laptop right next to the tv and i have a wired keyboard attaqched to mty laptop because being too close to a 37 inch isn't tht good for you.... so i dont really feel like spending 60 bux on a wireless mac keyboard and like 15 bux on a mouse which would be pointlless anyway because i dont have the setup to be sitting down and have desk space or any space for a mouse ... i currently haved the keyboard resting on my lap.... so i was wondering is there anything tht i can use as a mouse until i figure out what i am going to do... i will eventually get a wireless keyboard but i need to know is there anyway i could possibly use like my xbox 360 controller as a mouse... it is the standard wireless one but i do have a play and chargwe kit whihc i plgged into my laptop but when it said the driver software was installed successfully i went to use my controller but realized that i couldn't turn it on without turning on the xbox .. i dont mind if this controller wont work for the xbox anymore but can i use it as a mouse? please respond asap this keyboard is driving me crazy cuz i dont know all the shortcut keys on it....
